I figured we could use a place to post scam alerts.

Starting with, for example, that the FCA issued a warning against FX Sep Investor Services (aka FXSEP), which is a clone of the regulated company Scottish Equity Partners LLP. The clone operates from the website Fxsep.com and offers brokering services to traders, investors and fund managers.
The clone claims it is certified by an entity, called “Financial Institute”, is registered in the Companies House and displays the seal of the Registrar of Companies for England and Wales. A quick search revealed FX Sep Investor Services is not present in the Companies House registry.

The French financial regulatory body, AMF, has added to its warning list a number of websites that offer binary options trading in the country without being authorized to do so.

In order to operate in France and to target French investors, binary options brokers need to have a license from the relevant authorities in France or any other EU member state.

Here is a list of the newly identified binary options sites in France without authorization:

      • bankofinvest.com
      • bloomex-options.com
      • groupebinary.com
      • igm-financial.com
      • inglobalmarkets.com
      • londonbrokersoptions.com
      • privat-epargne.com
      • success-bank.com
      • superoptions.com
      • tradarea.com

Canada’s British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) warned the potential investors that the company Central Provider Ltd., operating the binary options broker CentralOption is not registered to trade in, or advise on, securities or exchange contracts in British Columbia. The regulator, however, became aware that Central Option was soliciting residents of the Canadian province to open an account with it.

According to UK’s Companies House registry the company operating the platform – Central Provided Ltd. is registered in the country and headquartered in London. It does not, however, appear in the Financial Services Register.

On its website CentralOption provides the same London address and an address on the Marshall Islands – an archipelago of coral atolls in the Pacific Ocean, but no regulatory information whatsoever.

Why am I not surprised they also have a dodgy address in an offshore zone...

Canadian financial watchdog, the Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC), has issued a warning against the company Option Ventures, operating the binary options website Iseebinary.com. According to the commission, the company has swindled an 81-year-old widow from Manitoba out of all her savings, amounting to $28 000. She has wired the money to Option Ventures, a company purportedly located in Moldova.

“She (the victim) became aware that it was a scam when the adviser told her that he was being fired by Iseebinary.com because he could not get any more money out of her,” said Led Terlinski, investigator with the MSC and emphasized that there are no binary option brokers, registered to operate in Manitoba.

The FCA warns that a company called Prest & Grove is likely running a scam. They have a London address listed on their website, as well as a registration number that doesn't turn up neither in the Financial Services Register, nor in the UK Companies House registry. The company is targeting British clients and claims it's providing financial services while their clients' money are held in a FCA/SRA registered custodian account.

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) published a warning that the binary options broker Stock Binary is misleading the public and is probably a scam. According to the announcement, in the contact section of its website stock-binary.com, the broker is falsely providing the name and address of the company Binary Investments (Europe) Ltd. in Malta.

The latter is a binary options broker with a license and regulation for a Category 3 investment services provider in Malta and for gaming products. The former, however, is not regulated and is giving the false impression it is properly licensed and regulated.

I've been keeping my eyes open about scam alerts ever since I got scammed a few years ago. It was a really unpleasant experience.
And yes, that's a good idea, I will try to get around to doing that soon.

Thanks Eliza, can you share your experience of being scammed?

I was a total newbie and didn't know what I was doing at all. I saw an ad about a local broker offering a bonus if I opened an account at their company, which I did. I never actually invested my own money, but I did make a profit off my bonus. When I tried to withdraw my profit the broker ignored me. I never saw anything from that profit. I am thankful that I didn't lose any of my own money, but considering that I was a newbie, I was eager and enthusiastic about everything Forex-related the whole experience was really disappointing and almost made me give up on the idea. Later the broker went under when other people complained to the authorities.

The moral of my story is this: don't work with unregulated companies and always, always research the ones you want to work with.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the US financial regulator, announced that a US federal district court has unsealed a civil complaint of the Commission against two Israeli-based binary options brokers – VaultOptions (Vault) and GlobalTrader365 (GT 365). The CFTC claims the two companies have illegally solicited and defrauded 50 US customers of $1 million. Furthermore, VaultOptions and GlobalTrader365 do not have a registration as Futures Commission Merchants.
