Gold futures ended slightly lower, with prices sticking to a tight trading range, as investors awaited the outcome of the Federal Reserve's two-day meeting on monetary policy.

The gold futures price rose by US$2.30 or 0.1% to US$1,780.10 an ounce. Spot gold was trading near US$1,780 an ounce at the US close. Iron ore climbed US$6.35 or 3.4% to US$191.45 a tonne.
